BORDER BETRAYAL

Government admits lying about jailed border agents
Inspector confronted on Capitol Hill, says promised 'proof' does not exist

February 6, 2007

A Department of Homeland Security official admitted today the agency misled Congress when it contended it possessed investigative reports proving Border Patrol agents Ignacio Ramos and Jose Compean confessed guilt and declared they "wanted to shoot some Mexicans" prior to the incident that led to their imprisonment.

The admission came during the testimony of DHS Inspector General Richard L. Skinner before the Homeland Security Subcommittee of the House Appropriations Committee, according to Michael Green, press secretary for Rep. John Culberson, R-Texas.

Culberson was questioning Skinner about a meeting DHS officials had Sept. 26 with him and three other Republican congressman from Texas, Reps. Ted Poe, Michael McCaul and Kenny Marchant.  Entire Story...

"The US is home to 23 million undocumented immigrant workers and their families"

President Bush's proposal lured greater numbers of illegal immigrants to violate the law. Approximately 45% of respondents crossed illegally based upon rumors of a Bush amnesty program.

The Bush plan: There are jobs Americans simply won't do, so that the importation of foreigners is essential.

Whether these foreign workers are illegal aliens, guest workers, or permanent legal immigrants is a detail to be worked out by us, the argument goes, but our need for them is unchanged.

Even many opponents of the proposed Bush Amnesty assume this to be true, leading them to propose new and improved guest worker programs, with provisions for stricter controls against permanent settlement, greater incentives to return, tighter enforcement against unscrupulous employers, etc.

As well-meaning as such efforts may be, the basic assumption is false — there is simply no economic reason to import foreign workers.

If the supply of foreign workers were to dry up (say, through actually enforcing the immigration law, for starters), employers would respond to this new, tighter, labor market in two ways. One, they would offer higher wages, increased benefits, and improved working conditions, so as to recruit and retain people from the remaining pool of workers. At the same time, the same employers would look for ways to eliminate some of the jobs they now are having trouble filling. The result would be a new equilibrium, with blue-collar workers making somewhat better money, but each one of those workers being more productive. read full story

A quote from President Bush's speech: (May 15th, 2006)

Therefore, I support a temporary worker program that would create a legal path for foreign workers to enter our country in an orderly way, for a limited period of time. This program would match willing foreign workers with willing American employers for jobs Americans are not doing. Every worker who applies for the program would be required to pass criminal background checks. And temporary workers must return to their home country at the conclusion of their stay.

What this REALLY means:

I want every corporation to be able to fire middle class workers and hire people that are willing to do anything for 10 bucks a day. A limited time means forever, or when the corporations decide that they have enough workers. The program would help nobody except large businesses, who will be able to make huge profits and get tax breaks while I run our nation's deficit to record highs and claim my country's economy is strong. Every worker would be required to pass criminal background checks, but we don't prosecute employers now for breaking immigration law and hiring illegal aliens, so they probably won't. These workers will be ordered to leave at the conclusion of their stay, but will come right back in or simply never leave.
